Who Needs a Professional Headshot? You Do!

Sam 2 BettinaWhether you’re a published author with a new book soon to hit the shelves or a writer with an outdated look, a book blogger with a growing audience, or you’re establishing a self-publishing presence, writers at all stages of their career need a professional headshot—several professional headshots—that capture you’re presence and personality. (Read this Publisher’s Weekly article on why every author needs a professional headshot, which also has expert tips for your shoot.)

Sam Bond, of Sam Bond Photography, a writer herself, is a writer’s photographer. Having trained for years shooting families, with wee ones, dogs, and a variety of creatures—some hairy, some not—Sam has turned her lens on those who write for a living. She is skilled at making the most introverted writer feel comfortable. With extroverts, she snaps the good guffaws, but can reign in the too silly!

Whatever your personality and author platform, Sam has a way of capturing the real you. Plus, her Photoshop skills don’t turn her clients into unrecognizable mannequins. She showcases the best of who we are, inside and out, which is what we all want for that book jacket back flap or publicity shot needed to accompany a feature article or blog interview.

Shooting at The Writing Barn, a workshop, retreat and event center in South Austin is an added plus! Sam will take you to cozy nooks, one of the many benches, and little hideaways that the 7.5 acre property offers. It’s the perfect back drop for an author headshot event–and there are rooms to change and books galore while you wait for your appointment time.

What Her Author Clients Have Said:

Jeanette“Nothing scares me more than a photo shoot! But Sam Bond made it fun (really!) and she got so many good headshots that I had a hard time picking out just a couple. In my entire life I’ve never been able to say that I loved my headshots…until Sam took them.”Jeanette Larson, Hummingbirds: Facts and Folklore from the Americas

Bethany HeadshotBethany-Hegedus-Headshot-250px“I’ve shot with Sam Bond twice and each time I walked away from the shoot knowing I’d have a selection of shots that captured who I am: silly, serious, caring, curious, and in-love with what I do. For me, being an author is a dream come true, and having a headshot that reflects that deep joy is a must.” Bethany Hegedus,  Truth with a Capital T and Grandfather Gandhi

“It is not easy to make people feel comfortable – AND get them to follow directions… Sam Bond, you are brilliant at it.” Jennifer Ziegler, How Not To Be Popular, Sass and Serendipity, Alpha Dog

Other praise for Sam Bond Photography:

“I am not a model and so I was a little stressed. However, Sam engaged me in conversation and lightened the mood which made me feel more comfortable. Sam took over a hundred shots, and worked with me to select the right ones. As I was in my traditional Indian wear, Sam made sure the clothes and my Indian personality showed through. It was a delightful experience and the photos she took were some of the best I have ever had done.” – Manu

Sam 1“I absolutely loved taking pictures with Sam. I’ll admit that I often feel self-conscious in front of the camera, but I felt really comfortable and at ease during our photo session. I was so surprised by just how natural and beautiful the pictures looked. To this day, the pictures I took with Sam are the ones I get the most compliments on. She is phenomenal!”  –Sherya
