Jumping for Joy! Joy Preble, an attendee at an Advanced Writer Workshop, sells novel!

Yesterday, here at The Writing Barn we got some thrilling news.  One of the writers who attended our Advanced

Author Joy Preble, signs “party porch” at The Writing Barn.

Writer Workshop series has sold the manuscript that she workshopped at our April event with Sara Zarr.  Congrats, Joy Preble! We’re thrilled and can’t wait for 2015 to add Finding Paris to the Barn book shelves.

The Mission of the Advanced Writer Workshop Series:

The goal of these workshops is for dedicated and productive writers to continue to study craft, read and analyze current books, have in-depth conversation, and to come away from the intensives with insights into their works in progress and to renew their writing inspiration.

From the PW announcement:

Alessandra Balzer at Balzer + Bray took world English rights to Joy Preble’s Finding Paris, in a deal brokered by Jennifer Rofé at Andrea Brown Literary. Preble (The Sweet Dead Life) offers a book that, Rofé said, feels like “Speak meets 13 Little Blue Envelopes,” about a teenage girl whose older sister sends her on a scavenger hunt from Las Vegas to L.A., to protect her from a dark secret.

Joy Preble chats with Varian Johnson at the Cocktails & Conversation opener to the Adv. Writer Weekend with Sara Zarr.

What Joy Said About Attending an Advanced Writer Workshop:

Attending the Advanced Writer Workshop at The Writing Barn, with Sara Zarr was the final push I needed to whip FINDING PARIS into shape. The novel was almost there. But almost isn’t enough! Having 15 pages of a manuscript workshopped by 20 fierce authors and the award winning and brilliant Sara Zarr in the safe but intellectually rigorous atmosphere of Bethany Hegedus’ Writing Barn was just the trick. Zarr is a thoughtful and clear instructor. She talked about emotional growth and character backstory and how those emotional turning points need concrete, sensory triggers and much, much more. I was daunted but thrilled. And now that manuscript is going to become a book!
