What’s Happening in the Austin Book World, January 29-February 5

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a great week and are getting out and enjoying the beautiful Austin weather that we have been having. Anyways, just in case you haven’t been getting out this week is packed full of great opportunities to do so. From story time to supporting our very own Austinites. Make sure to get out and engage in the writing community. Have a wonderful week and enjoy the beauty of the Austin book world. And remember even if you can’t make any of the events you can always pick up a good book and go out, read, and enjoy the weather.

UnknownThursday, January 29 at 7p.m. There is going to be a wonderful book discussion at Book Woman. The book that is going to be discussed is Prayers for The Stolen by Jennifer Clement. Prayers for The Stolen has been awarded the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) and the Sara Curry Humanitarian Award. The novel is about a young girl growing up in in a remote Mexican village, but how can a young girl grow up disguised as a boy. Book Woman would love to see new faces at the discussion, so go out and join in.

 

Friday, January 30 at 7p.m. Rob Thomas, creator of the fabulous TV series Veronica Mars will be at Book People for a imagesspeaking and signing. The speaking is free for the public, but the signing is only for individuals who purchase his new book Mr. Kiss and Tell: Veronica Mars 2. The book is sure to expose yet another mystery. Saturday, January 31 at 11:30a.m. Book people will be having yet another one of their oh so famous story time. This weeks story time is a big one, all in celebration of Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss 50th Anniversary edition. There will be other funny stories, and jokes, along with experts from Fox in Socks. 

Monday, February 2 at 7p.m. George Friedman, a bestselling author, will be doing a speaking and signing at Book People. Flaveganshpoints:The Emerging Crisis in Europe, examines the geopolitical flashpoints in Europe—in which imminent future conflicts are rising. Friedman is another fabulous Austinite.

Wednesday, February 4 at 7p.m. Julie Wernersbach and Carolyn Tracy will be at Book People for a speaking and signing. Their book Vegan Survival Guide to Austin is a wonderful way to get to know about all the vegan friendly restaurants around Austin. This book has come from a year of eating at and learning about the vegan community. The book is filled with pictures and stories from the individuals who are responsible for creating the vegan scene here in Austin. And Julie and Carolyn are two booksellers at Book People.
